From readers of Dr. Mumford's parenting book, "Small Boat, Wide Sea: Parenting in the 21st Century":

"You have put together an amazing amount of condensed thinking in a very readable form."

"Thank you for your book. . . I'm more of a big picture/principle guy myself and appreciate your wisdom on parenting."

"Thank you for writing a sensitive, down-to-earth parenting book. This should be a 'must read' for every parent of an infant, toddler, preschooler, elementary-age child or adolescent."

"I just finished reading your book and I cried at the end. . .I wish I'd had it earlier (when our little girl was one). How reassuring it would have been. There were parts that convicted me and others that left me standing tall. Through it all what struck me most was the importance of having a plan for our children's lives."

"I've read several chapters and feel like you've been at my house, following me around. . .I really like the format and the "rate yourself" sections. I do admit, even though I never want to, that my kids can be in charge and are parent deaf. I'm praying for strength to improve."

"I thoroughly appreciated the honesty and "right-on" way you discussed parenting and child development. I enjoyed it and have recommended it to others."

"I love your warm and witty writing style. I love your wisdom. I have only one plea after reading this book. 'Please, Dr. Mumford, write more!'"

COMMENTS FROM ATTENDEES

The seminar presented principles without guilt, taking into consideration the complexity of children and relationships.

Very honest, realistic, and helpful.

This seminar is a great overview of our kids’ minds, emotions, and the world they live in.  Well presented with up-to-date knowledge and candor.

The [communication] session was so enlightening and encouraging as a parent.  I need to know that it’s okay to be tough (not take the easy way out—“permissive”) because in the end it is my child who will flourish and succeed.

I have been deeply encouraged to know where my convictions lie, model them to my children, and encourage them to do the same.

This workshop was very helpful and educational.  Being able to under the emotional and challenging times going through these ages is very helpful, but also to learn more about the steps we as parents need to take.

Wonderful seminar with great information and perspective.  Thanks for helping to keep me grounded in parenting.

This is exactly what I wanted – to learn what is coming up – what is happening out there – how I need to react. I was looking to be a prepared, proactive parent. Thank you for helping me to accomplish that goal.

Really enjoyed the seminar.  Can’t wait to read the book.

It was good to hear again that the Christian community is not protected from these statistics. We think that we are safe from these problems with our children.

I appreciated the practical advice in helping teach my kids they are not entitled to anything they want.

Just the information we were seeking to help us in our journey through the  ’tween years. Thank you.

This was a wonderfully helpful and enlightening presentation.

Thank you very much for both your personal and professional experience and information.

The presenter was professional with excellent information and clear presentation.

It was very good to hear information provided by someone in the educational field.

I am so glad to have had the chance to hear Dr. Mumford.

Truly this is information no parent should miss!

Thank you so much for caring about our children.

COMMENTS FROM PASTORS

Dr. Mumford shares from her heart and from a great wealth of information she has gained through her years of research and study of the family.  She effectively relates to seminar participants because she has “been there” and because through the years she has had a great deal of contact with young people from both healthy and dysfunctional family settings.

Dr. Mumford’s ministry to us was a true blessing and encouragement.  She brings together a unique blend of education, experience, wisdom, humor and compassion to offer understanding, practical advice, and needed encouragement in the parenting journey.

In a world where parents are increasingly unsure of themselves and what role they play in the lives of their children, Dr. Mumford provides a source of encouragement and practical instruction.  Her manner is direct and straightforward, yet never falls into the “three easy steps” approach to parenting.  Our church found her humble spirit and willingness to serve our people a breath of fresh air.

Dr. Mumford’s presentation was wonderful—insightful, current, and thought provoking.  God’s people were extremely blessed and encouraged by her ministry to them.

Dr. Mumford has a very sharp sense of the challenges of 21st-century family life and how to address those challenges in a down-to-earth way.

Please accept my thanks for the wonderful parenting seminar.  Thank you, also, for your faithfulness in research and preparation for such an informative time of instruction.
